I equate February with love and love notes. Sure, we’re talking about February 14th and Valentine’s Day, and every person shows their romantic side (whether they want it or not). But it’s more than that! I’m thinking about the first signs of spring: bursting buds on the cherry trees, daffodils and snowdrops poking through the cold soil and animated birds basking in the warmer sun.
I try to think and create outside the box and love offering unusual designs and gifts, and those familiar with Austen Flowers’ signature style will testify that I love a challenge.
I was delighted to be asked by the Heart Children Ireland charity to design an alternative floral heart to promote their annual fundraising week. The charity’s patron, Damien Duff and the sweet James and Saoirse were the brave souls who lent a welcome hand to the campaign.
The Heart Children Ireland Valentine’s Floral Heart, created by Camelia Austen, was handmade using native cornus, willow and birch twigs, wrapped in scented eucalyptus and soft ruscus foliage, with accents of citrusy wax flowers and a velvety Red Naomi luxury rose. The Valentine’s Floral Heart would look equally beautiful hung on a front door or indoors. It measured 20 inches and it dries really beautifully, meaning that the lucky recipient could keep it on display as a keepsake long after Valentine’s Day.
